CAMPING
The St. Croix International Waterway Commission and its partners strive to preserve, promote and maintain backcountry camp sites along the St. Croix River, Spednic Lake and East Grand Lake in Maine and New Brunswick. These sites are free of charge on a first come first serve basis and are only accessible by boat (lakes) or canoe/kayak (river). Maintained campsites are equipped with a picnic table, firepit, and pit toilet. Please obey all posted site use regulations. Firewood should be bought and purchased from the local area, please do not transport firewood between countries or across state and provincial lines due to invasive species risk. Please ensure that you carry-in carry-out all waste, and help us keep these campsites clean for public use.
Please contact us for issues pertaining to any campsites found along the waterway.
The SCIWC is not responsible for lost or damaged items, or injuries sustained while on the river or while using these backcountry campsites.
East Grand Lake, Spednic Lake, the St. Croix River and all St. Croix boundary waters are obligatory "one-country camping". This means that you must camp on the same side of the border as the one you put in on. The boundary waters of the St. Croix are patrolled regularly by border enforcement agencies from both countries, we highly encourage users to reach out to respective border agencies in the United States and Canada for specific border questions relating to the use of boundary waters.
